About The Event

During My Space Abstract Art Retreats the focus is on you as an individual and your creativity. I keep the group sizes small (max 8) to allow more time to work with each individual. This course is aimed at every ability, the only skills you need are the willingness to let go, to play, to explore the world around you and acknowledge your true self. Under my guidance you will be able to explore a variety of techniques and ways of working and thinking. You will also visit the studios of practicing artists and experience demonstrations and workshops including ceramics and glass. This retreat will allow you to be among creative minds and to share time with others who care deeply about creative expression. Cornwall lies in the far SW of England, the landscape has been an inspiration to generations of artists. St Ives has an international reputation as a haven for British Abstract Art. Creativity is everywhere. During the retreat you will retrace the journey of Cornish Art visiting Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum, St Ives. We explore local environment using sensory experiences, personal reflection of emotional impact, group sharing and simple materials. The journey will be personal and memorable. Mindfulness and acknowledging the moment and place will deepen your exploration and ways of working.

The retreat provides professional tuition and guidance, I am a qualified teacher, psychotherapist and practicing artist. My imagery is often completed in a series, usually three or four images evolve at once. The images are often a response to a moment in time, a scene. I look, observe, visually recording in my mind but more importantly storing the feeling I am experiencing from within. It is this combination of vision and feeling that I respond to. I challenge anyone to look at the sea, the sand, the sky and the land, to close your eyes and take in a large, deep breath and then open your eyes and observe, observe not only the scene but the feeling.

Mount Pleasant Eco Park is an idyllic setting, nature surrounds us. Set above the coastal village of Porthtowan the Park has spectacular views of the sea. More details can be found on the website

The village of Porthtowan is on the stunning North coast of Cornwall. I recommend that you stay locally, Porthtowan has numerous options for booking your accommodation, if you would like advice please email me.

Please bring with you a ring bound A4 sketchbook and be prepared for the Cornish weather (remember our tans are actually rust!). We will be walking, nothing too strenuous, but it may be muddy and uneven under foot. Please email me if you have mobility concerns. When you reserve your place, I will send you all the conditions of booking that I ask you to sign and return by post within 5 working days. If you have any queries about this or any other, please contact me asap.
